Town of Shelburne
You gotta love a place that’s known for being the site of the Canadian Open Old Time Fiddle Championship. Yes, that’s right, and the proof is in the line-up of trophies showcased in the Town of Shelburne Town Hall. This annual celebration features Canada’s top fiddlers competing for the Championship title and thousands of dollars in prize money. Proceeds from the event support the charitable work of local service clubs and organizations, because that’s the kind of place Shelburne is.
Quintessentially Canadian and one of Southern Ontario’s fastest-growing municipalities, the Town of Shelburne offers a vibrant lifestyle for residents of all ages. Located in Dufferin County at the intersection of Highways 10 and 89, Shelburne is a 40-minute drive to Barrie, Brampton, Oakville and the world-renowned ski slopes at Blue Mountain. Enhanced by the backdrop of the Niagara Escarpment, Dufferin County is also home to lush conservation areas, 20 area golf courses, sports and recreational facilities and opportunities, schools, entertainment and cultural facilities, restaurants and shopping (including a grocery store).
Shelburne also features one of Ontario’s most charming historic Town Halls, which in the past has served as everything from a shoe store to a motion picture theatre, courtroom, department of health and butcher shop. In 1994 it was renovated and today houses Town administration and staff, Council chambers, Police Services and the Grace Tipling Concert Hall. This entertainment venue is named for a well-loved area music teacher – because that’s the kind of place Shelburne is.
Although many residents commute from Shelburne to Orangeville, Brampton and the Greater Toronto Area, the Town itself is a great place to live, play and work. There are several successful businesses and manufacturing plants close at hand.
With its intriguing combination of rural and urban highlights, it’s understandable why the Town of Shelburne is known as “A people place, a change of pace.”
