Town of Alliston
Part of the Town of New Tecumseth, Alliston is attracting new residents at a brisk rate. Situated west of the Nottawasaga River and bisected by the Boyne River, this area of the province is exceptionally beautiful. Alliston has two beautiful parks, and Just three km west of town, Earl Rowe Provincial Park is one of the largest in Southern Ontario.
In addition to picturesque natural areas, Alliston features a downtown with shops, restaurants and a variety of services. It is also home to the award-winning four-season Nottawasaga Inn Resort & Conference Centre, where visitors and locals can access golf, mini-golf, hockey, soccer, walking trails, a fabulous 70,000 square-foot health and fitness centre, plus a Sports & Leisure Dome.
Alliston is known as a place where residents celebrate their quality of life, as well as one of the best potato-growing areas in the province. The annual Alliston Potato Festival is a well-loved fundraising event that has been around since the early 1970s. A community effort in the truest sense of the word, The Festival features a parade, bingo, races, a dog agility show, entertainment, lawn tractor races, a midway and plenty of potatoes! The event attracts approximately 75,000 visitors each year. Funds raised have benefitted a variety of community organizations.
New Tecumseth has so much to offer in the way of culture that it is part of Simcoe County’s Cultural Network, focusing on art, heritage, education and entertainment. Among the attractions in Alliston are Banting Homestead Heritage Park and Museum on the Boyne. You will also find the South Simcoe Pioneer Museum in Alliston, as well as The Gibson Centre for Community, Arts & Culture. Housed in the historic Mercer Manufacturing Company building constructed in 1889, which was eventually purchased by the Gibson family. Today, this facility is the site of musical concerts, theatre, comedy and more.
Residents are also making great use of the Town of New Tecumseth Recreation Centre. This 130,000 square foot state-of-the-art, year-round facility features a field house, walking track and more.
